Drama classes should be a key component in every child’s education. They encourage empathy, honesty, develop understanding of human emotions and interactions, help to develop language and communication skills, teach co-operation and tolerance, nurture friendships and are a great way to inspire creativity. Drama classes help to develop independent, self-confident children free from the inhibitions that limit so many of us.
We provide Group Drama classes for 3 age groups: 8-11, 12–14 and 14+. The drama classes cover improvisation, script work, voice and diction, expressive physicality, drama games and much more. No two weeks are the same and the emphasis is on fun, interaction and confidence building. Every two years the drama and musical theatre classes come together to devise, script, rehearse and stage a play. This is performed at The Rhoda McGaw Theatre in Woking. For the two terms leading up to the production the drama classes are used as rehearsal time.
LAMDA

The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA) is one of the UK’s oldest drama schools and has been offering practical examinations in communication and performance subjects for over 130 years. LAMDA exams are about achievement – recognising and rewarding the hard work of each individual – but more importantly about developing long term life skills; self-knowledge, empathy, self-confidence and the ability to communicate clearly.
LAMDA examinations have a reputation of excellence across the globe. The top levels (Grades 6-8) are recognised within the UCAS tariff for UK university entrance and can contribute up to 65points, the equivalent to a mid-grade A level. They are an excellent addition to mainstream education and an absolute must for all those interested in applying for Dance or Drama Colleges. Vocational colleges are increasingly looking for triple threat performers; students who can sing, dance and act. These skills take time to learn – don’t leave it too late!
LAMDA Acting classes are taught one-to-one or in pairs. Minimum age is 8. Since 2005 JSTA students have taken over 200 LAMDA Examinations across all grades with over 79% being awarded Distinction.

Ray Franklin also works one-to-one with students on audition work for entry into Drama School or Musical Theatre College and also as a Performance Coach.
