Tap dance as we know it today only developed during the 1920s, but has a complex history taking in African tribal dances and drumming, British and Irish clog dancing and many other influences. It is rhythm; it is funky, smooth, classical. It is anything you want it to be.
Our Tap dance classes follow the ISTD Curriculum and our team of fully qualified, professional teachers embrace the ethos of our school. Tap Students can start in Primary from age 4 and can continue through to Advanced II.

Our uniform supplier is 4 dance with stores at Walton and Byfleet. All JSTA uniform is now available to purchase from both 4 dance stores and exclusively, for JSTA Customers, 4 dance have introduced a loyalty scheme.

Medal Tap
Medal Tap is a fun way to develop tap skills. Run in parallel with the Graded Tap Classes, students work through progressive exams: Bronze, Silver and Gold. The structure of the classes and exams are performance-based and enable difficult steps to be learned, enhancing progress within their graded tap classes.
To join Bronze students need to be Grade 3 Tap or above. The next course of Medal Tap classes, returning to the Bronze stage, commences from the Summer Term 2021.
Adult Tap
Our Adult Tap Class is open to adults of all ages. The class is designed for adults who have experience of tap dance and either want to get back into it after an absence, or just want to keep dancing and hone their skills. The classes are fun and informal, so come and have a go – it’s also a great way to exercise.
